Adobe Illustrator-Additional Help

Setting setup options

The print bounding box (that is, the print area) sets the position of the printer's marks on your document and defines the printable boundaries of the artwork, as well as nonprintable boundaries such as direction lines. You define the print bounding box with the Setup options in the Print dialog box. The print bounding box is represented as a dashed line surrounding the artwork in the Print dialog box's preview window. (The bounding box is not visible if it's the same size as the artboard and the media, but it's still there.)

The Setup options also define where the imageable area or first tile of your artwork should be placed. For example, you might change the placement to better fit the artwork on the film or printed page.

You can set the following Setup options in the Print dialog box:

    Crop Artwork To

Specifies whether to crop the artwork to the artboard, the bounding box of all artwork in the document, or to the defined crop area. For more information on the crop area, see Setting the crop area.

    Placement

Clicking one of the squares specifies the origin point for the imageable area or first tile to be placed.

    Origin X

Specifies the origin point along the x (horizontal) axis.

    Origin Y

Specifies the origin point along the x (horizontal) axis.

    Tiling

Specifies how you want to tile pages. For more information on tiling, see Dividing the artboard into multiple page tiles.

    • Single Full Page to display and print only one page.
    • Tile Full Pages to divide the artboard into as many whole pages as will fit. No partial pages are displayed or printed.
    • Tile Imageable Areas to divide the artboard into as many sections as necessary to print all the artwork.

To define a crop area:

    Do one of the following:

    • Draw a rectangle to define the crop area, and then select the rectangle. Then choose Object > Crop Area > Make.
    • To set the crop area around the artboard, choose Select > Deselect, then choose Object > Crop Area > Make.

Note: This has the same effect as not specifying a crop area, and defining the printing bounding box as the artboard using the Setup option in the Print dialog box.
