Getting to Know Your Printer
12/24/2006
Step1 for professional printing in color from home is to use a color printer that is Pantone Calibrated.
Monitor and printer color production can be challenging when trying to work with a local printer. For basic color an inkjet printer will work. If you screen monitor will allow you to pantone calibrate, it will delivery even truer results.
Then, you’ll want to find a printer that offers a variety of commercial, packaging, and display items for you to all get all of your printing in one place.
If you wait until the last minute, like most, a local printer will gouge you for a rush print job. The best solution is to use a local printer for other projects a few times and see how you work together. Slowly award them larger projects on an earning basis. If the printer you’re considering isn’t very busy, you’ll probably end up with a crumby job.
You may be shocked to discover that the company you’re using with your full color brochure printing isn’t printing it in house, and sends it to a trade printer. That is OK and often better than dealing direct as you have the added buffer of expertise.
Printing a Brochure
Need a number of brochures? A proof of your brochure prior to it being printed is essential. Is your chance to see the real McCoy before is produced. A brochure can be a great promotional tool, whether it is for is a trade show handout, a real estate listing, a data sheet, or another use. Some brochure designs are quite complex and others are simpler; color brochure printing is one of the simpler methods of keeping in touch and opening new doors. Color brochure printing is often avoided when there is a cost limitation, but with the internet today quality color printing can be purchased very inexpensively.
I personally believe that your company image is not kid’s play. Once you find the best formula of what works for you, hang on to it like it’s gold.

Designing a Logo for Check Printing
If your company name is made up of many words or when short form may not be appropriate, developing a text logo will keep the logo design as simple and clean as possible. A symbol logo is the opposite extreme in design from a text logo. Company Logo design fpr check printing requires your direction as well as the graphic designer’s creativity.
Should I create a logo for the web first? Do it the other way round and you might find that a design appears good on a web site but looks average when scaled up for use in print. You want to develop your logo for print first, then the web.
Representation
Logos are icons or styles that are generally used to represent businesses, brands and concepts. Corporate logos represent what the business is about. Logos are symbols that represent ideas, concepts and businesses. It should also represent the company’s image well
Printing Your Logo
Most banks use MICR technology to print bank logos, as it is capable of printing highly complicated images. A desktop MICR printer is most commonly used for printing checks; it is capable of printing logos, names, and addresses. MICR inks are specially formulated and contain metallic composition so banks can scan the MICR area.
Ordering Checks
Why do ordering checks cost so much?
Because banks make a profit on the checks you order. In many cases you are better off buying your checks from a local printer. They are usually much cheaper, especially when you require quantities in excess of 1000 units.
A checking account is intended more for daily, weekly, and monthly transactions, such as the writing of checks and the withdrawal of cash for various minor purposes. Many banks offer free checking with no minimum balance, no monthly fees, free bill pay, ATM/debit card, overdraft protection, with or without direct deposit, as well as other banking services like stop payments and copies of checks written. Accepting checks that are going to come back saying insufficient funds or account closed is another way to have a bank close your account. Technically this is fraud and can be pursued legally.
